Our Part

So what’s our part of John 3:16? What’s the condition of eternal life?

John 3:16 KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

We must believe. God’s love is evident throughout the Holy Bible, but it is not unconditional. Salvation requires something on our part.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 22:14 KJV For many are called, but few are chosen.

What part do we have then? It is not us that calls, but God. It is not us to choose, but God’s. The answer is found in Revelation. Revelation 17:14 KJV says, …they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

It is God’s to call and to choose. It is our part to believe and be faithful.

A Quick Love Test

Many today preach that God’s love is unconditional. Let’s take a quick test.

John 3:16 KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

What’s the condition?

CLE

Lawyers take CLE, continuing legal education, classes yearly to keep their bar credentials valid and current.

The idea – in keeping current, there’s always room for improvement. We’re never too old to learn new material or to refresh our memory of something we have already learned.

Galatians 3:25 KJV says But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Faith then is our diploma.

Faith, primarily my faith, calls me to try to read the Holy Bible daily. We could call that continuing legal education. God himself recommends CLE. See 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth, and 1 Peter 3:15 KJV … be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:.

My faith tells me the Holy Ghost will teach me himself. There are things in the Bible I still don’t understand. There remains wisdom to gain everyday. And there remains room to grow in faith.

James 1:5 KJV If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Mark 9:24 KJV
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

Practice makes Perfect

Galatians 3:24-25 KJV
Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. [25] But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

I have heard these verses used by some to argue that we are no longer under the law. I have a few questions for them.

Did you graduate?

What did you learn?

Won’t you carry it with you, forever?

When we put into practice what we have learned from our schoolmaster, the law, we can identify sin, choose the right over the wrong, and move through faith into perfection.

Matthew 5:48 KJV
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

With One Excuse

I’m not a judge and I don’t play one on TV, but I imagine the excuses for not following the law range from far-fetched to hilarious.

There’s nothing funny about not following the laws of God. Yet so many of us make excuse.

It was the law of Moses, the Ten Commandments don’t apply today.

It was written to the Church at Corinth and only applied to them.

It was written only to the church back then.

You didn’t say it twice.

I thought it was just a suggestion.

We’re under grace, we don’t have to keep the law.

All our sins are already forgiven, so why does it matter.

It’s just a little sin.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Matthew 7:24 KJV
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

The Times

The times they are a changing.

I just watched a woman preacher on the Hillsong channel dismiss 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 and 1 Timothy 2:11-12. She basically said these were only for the times because the women from that period were uneducated and did not know how to act.

These commands are not time specific. Those things written in the Holy Bible in times past are applicable today. Let us, whether man or woman, not look for excuse.

1 Samuel 15:22 KJV
And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord ? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Why your Bible translation matters!

I believe in and promote the King James version Holy Bible.

I do not say that Salvation cannot be found in other translations.

I do say Damnation can be found in other translations.

Here are two examples I’ve come across in the last few weeks:

In John 3:16 one and only son

In KJV one and only begotten son

Why does it matter? Our hope like angels is to be the sons and daughters of the most high God. 2 Corinthians 6:17-18 KJV Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing ; and I will receive you, [18] And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

If God has one son, we and angels should lose hope. Yet the correct translation includes begotten to indicate Jesus was born of God and through miraculous conception Mary.

1 John 1:9 when are sins are revealed in his light he is faithful to forgive

1 John 1:9 KJV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The KJV correctly places the onus of confession on us, not mere happenstance or accident.

Proverbs 28:13 KJV
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Love Dares

There is nothing you can do to make God happy says the preacher on tv.

John 14:15 KJV
If ye love me, keep my commandments. Says Jesus.

Love dares to please. And may in the pleasing cause happiness.

Missing the Mark

I really didn’t care for missing the mark as a definition of sin. It seemed to me to minimalize the seriousness of sin.

Yet, with further examination maybe it’s not such a bad definition. If. If the person is serious about marksmanship. If it is a lifestyle and not a game or hobby. The marksman is constantly striving to hit the mark. A miss is a disappointment and shame.

What would have happened if David missed the mark in his fight with Goliath?

Keep in mind the wages of sin is death. If we follow Christ and walk with him, he will teach us with practice to hit the mark every time. We can be perfect for a few seconds, then for a few minutes, and soon enough days turn into weeks of righteous living.

Job 17:9 KJV
The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

Choosing Culture

Psalm 45:6 KJV
Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

Israel has chosen culture over God.

They are a nation once again. They have revived the Jewish language and traditions, but when will they choose their God over the past?

Only by recognizing Jesus as the Christ, our Messiah, will they come to God. Living under the Old Testament they falsely believe they can approach God the Father directly. We who live under the New Testament know better. 1 Timothy 2:5 KJV For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

In the days of Esther, the King extended his scepter granting life to those unbidden before him. Jesus is the royal scepter extending life from Jehovah to those that seek him.

May Israel choose Jesus and the New Testament over their culture, soon.
