Double Jeopardy

Can women be called to pastor or lead a church? No. The Bible clearly states in 1 Corinthians 14:34 KJV, Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

If you are a woman who feels called, the above New Testament law is clear. I suppose this leaves opportunity to teach outside of the church, perhaps at home, yet there is also 1 Timothy 2:12 KJV to consider, which says, But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

To follow the will of God can be difficult both for men and women, but if you are a woman and violate either of these two commandments you are off to a bad start. If you continue against God’s will, you will also be judged for any errant doctrine you teach, hence double jeopardy.

Ladies, God is giving you a pass that men don’t have. Take it. Don’t follow after your own desires or people who cannot read. You can testify to others by your life and move them by your conversation.

I Think Therefore

The Church of Christ, at least where I attend, teaches it preachers to not say “in my opinion” or “I think”. However, these phrases may save a preachers soul. If you say something is the word of God and it isn’t or if you are just plain wrong these phrases could save you from God’s eternal judgement.

If you let the people know your thought isn’t necessarily the word of God you cover yourself and you give them a chance to consider the issue or thought on their own. You give them the opportunity to form their own opinion.

Opinions aren’t bad, but serving up doctrines of men as the word of God could prove deadly both to the preacher and the listeners.

It Is Written

There is a principle that I stand by, God will not go against his word. If you hear or see something that tells you to go against the Holy Bible you should know that that influence is not of God.

I know no woman is called to preach or teach in the Church. How do I know this?

1 Corinthians 14:34-35 KJV
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. [35] And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

I know Jesus didn’t cover his head to pray with a tallit. How do I know this?

1 Corinthians 11:4 KJV
Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

If you know the written word you will know the truth well enough to try what you hear and see.
