Inescapable Synonyms

In this age of cancel culture, people are trying to redefine biblical words in order to make them undesirable or just weaken their true meaning. Definitions matter. If evil can change fear of the Lord to respect and awe of the Lord and confess your sins to simply acknowledge them the Devil is making serious strides in spreading misinformation and misunderstanding. What’s the truth?

  • Religion is another word for Duty
  • Legalism is another word for Obedience
  • Fear is another word for Terror. Terrible is a correct adjective used to describe God
  • Holy is another word for Righteous
  • Righteous is another word for Obedient
  • Love is another word for Caring
  • Caring is another word for Affection
  • Placing conditions on love and affection is natural and appropriate.

Before you believe those that say this word means such and such according to recent studies of Greek or Hebrew, learn what it means in English. If you have doubts on the meaning of a word check your Dictionary and Thesaurus before they too get changed and a new and so called better version comes out.

Bad Medicine

Bad doctrine is like bad medicine. As bad medicine is harmful to the body, bad doctrine is unhealthy for the soul.

Christianity is not a religion. It might be popular to say, but that doesn’t make it true. I would suspect even the non-believers you are trying to attract realize this statement is simply false.

People who preach the law are purveyors of legalism. Legalism of course being a dirty word. Is law bondage? What does the Bible actually say regarding the law?

Hebrews 10:16-17 KJV
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; [17] And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

More or Less

Another disappointing Wednesday night service of people preaching and teaching that we are no longer under the law.

However, Jesus said he came not to destroy the law but to fulfill and if you love me keep my Commandments. Did he need to rename all of them? The New Testament says keep the commandment you have heard from the beginning.

They (errant preachers) claim we are under love and not under the law, but I say if you truly love the Lord why not let him write all his Commandments on your heart.

I once argued with a preacher, why would you keep nine commandments and not all ten. I told him I wanted to do more for the Lord. He said keeping the Sabbath, which admittedly I’m not doing well at, was not doing more.

You be the Judge, is Ten more than Nine?

Definitive

Satan’s plans are nefarious and can at times be very subtle. One of his projects is changing the meaning of various words. If you hear his definitions often enough you might just believe them.

  • Religion is bad
  • Legalism is evil
  • Love is unconditional
  • Male is a sexist distinction
  • Female is a personal distinction
  • Sexuality is a choice
  • Life is after birth and before senility
  • White Lie
  • Half Truth

Changing the meaning of words leads to confusion and confusion leads to sin.

The Bible tells us in Isaiah 5:20 KJV Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

But what if you’ve been misled and don’t know the difference?

So Close And Yet

Have you ever heard a sermon where you thought to yourself they just missed it. Many grace preachers fall into this zone. They offer truth, just not all of it.

I heard a sermon about a week ago. It was another legalism basher. And here’s the thing, while it might be okay to disregard man’s rules and regulations, it’s not okay to disregard God’s. (Often though, I think you will find its wise to follow even man’s rules and regulations. Following the speed limit and paying taxes are wise if you don’t want to face a penalty.)

So after telling us how we are free of the law, the pastor ended the sermon telling us how we are given a new spirit. In fact the preacher mentioned several times how God would give us a new spirit. Each time I finished the truth in my head that he could not or would not mention because it contradicted his premise that legalism was a bad thing.

Hebrews 8:10-11 KJV
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: [11] And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

Dirty Words

Religion

My religion and my faith is Christianity.

Legalism

I indeed study the law. I try to follow it. On occasion I have even tried to reprove people with it.

Conditional Love

There are people that insist God’s love is unconditional. Read John 3:16, now read it slowly. The first condition is belief. Other conditions evolve from our learned belief.

Don’t let anyone convince you these are dirty words and be wary of those that claim that they are.
