Any Other Name

These are a few things that bother me about what people are calling God these days. Admittedly, they may not bother the Lord, but they bother me.

Father God – I think this is mainly a Baptist creation, but we don’t say Son God or Holy Spirit God. Even though it may be an accurate description, Father God won’t be found in the KJV. Proper titles are Heavenly Father, Lord God Almighty, God the Father, Yahweh, and his name is Jehovah.

Holy Spirit – We’re so close we don’t have to say the in front of the title. It seems to imply a familiarity that I’m not sure really exists. Proper names are The Holy Spirit or The Holy Ghost.

Yeshua – To me Jesus will always be Jesus. I’m not entirely convinced Yeshua is even accurate. It seems to me to be a modern Hebrewization of the name Jesus. They say it’s historical Hebrew, but I haven’t seen any historical text were the name Yeshua is actually used in print. Proper names or titles are many: Jesus, Son of God, Rose of Sharon, Lion of the Tribe of Judah, The Messiah. I suppose there are more, but that’s all that come to mind at the moment.

In Jesus Name

Did you know some Bible scholars don’t know why we pray in Jesus name?

Can you imagine appearing in an earthly courtroom without an attorney?

1 Timothy 2:5 KJV says, For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

When we pray in Jesus name we appear before the Heavenly Father with Jesus by our side, an attorney that’s already paid for.

If you enjoy a more figurative explanation and biblical theme read the book of Esther and search the word sceptre in your Holy Bible. If you appeared unbidden before the King of Persia in Esther’s time he would hold out his scepter signifying life. If he withheld it from the petitioner it meant a sentence of death.

Jesus is the sceptre already held out by the Lord God Almighty. If you accept him you shall have eternal life.

With Jesus as our mediator each and every time, we may present ourselves before Jehovah, the Most High and Holy and live.

Identity

I have quoted Matthew 23:9 KJV a few times in my blog; And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

What does this look like in application? I don’t have any children, but when I do I’d like to think I will ask them to call me by my first name, Dean. I can imagine an appropriate time, early in their childhood, when I will explain to them how I am their biological dad, but we all have one Heavenly Father, the Lord God Almighty, Jehovah.

So when is this done? My dad never asked me to call him by his first name and I don’t know of anyone where this has been the case. But if this little known command were put into practice – teaching our children early that they are sons or daughters of God, would it solve problems of gender identity?

I believe identity found in God is truly a strong foundation. 2 Corinthians 6:17-18 KJV Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing ; and I will receive you, [18] And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

First Preventer

I have noticed not only a trend at our local Church, but one that seems to be popular nation wide. The trend is praying for and honoring first responders. Although fire fighters, EMTs, doctors, and police are honorable professions, I don’t care to pray for them all, especially ones I don’t know. In my opinion prayers and blessings should be first for those close to you. Remember when Esau sought a blessing he found nothing left, for it had already gone to Jacob.

As we pray, there is no better way than Matthew 6:9-13.  Let us not forget to honor and trust the First Preventer.  He caused David to sleep peacefully at night. He built hedges around Job. He causes the tumor to be benign or never to form. He causes the thief and the murderer to pass by your house. These among thousands of other ways He keeps us safe. He is the Lord God Almighty. He is Jehovah. And in God do we trust.

Isaiah 12

And in that day thou shalt say, O Lord , I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.

And in that day shall ye say, Praise the Lord, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.

Sing unto the Lord ; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.

Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.
